Quillcards Ecard Color Picker – What Color Was That?

If you are familiar with our ecards, you will know they have a background color that fills the browser window around the image and the text, as you can see in this sample ecard [image opens in a new window].

Originally we offered a range of five background colors. Some time later we increased that to seven colors, and then last year we increased that to 96 colors with the new color picker.

[The color picker we use is a Jquery color picker and if you want further details of how it is set up, just leave a comment here and I will let you know.]

How The Color Picker Works
When you pick a color by clicking on one of the small squares, that color appears in the long rectangle just above the swatch of colors.

You can keep on clicking until you decide which color best suits the image you have chosen.

Now you will see that some of the 96 colors in the color picker are distinctly different from their neighbors, wheras other colors are more subtly different from the colors near them.

So when we introduced the color picker, we quickly saw that it was not always easy to see precisely which color had just been picked.

Therefore, a couple of months ago we introduced a small feature so that when a color is picked, a black key line appears around the color, as you can see here.

Now it is easy to see which color has just been chosen, and from the feedback we have had, we are pleased to know that it has been a welcome additional feature.

Try It Out
Even if you are not a Quillcards member, you can try out the color picker yourself. Choose any image from our collection and click on it. Then click to Preview This Card and take it from there.

Or you could head for the Free Ecards page and send one of our free ecards to a friend or loved one – whether it is for a special occasion or to say Just Touching Base – one of our many ecard greetings.
