Guinea Pigs Top The Charts

As you might guess, animal images are always popular subjects for our ecards – and our guinea pig images are perennial favorites. In fact, we could devote a whole category to these little animals, they are so popular.

Equally popular is another guinea pig – our own dear guinea pig named Spiffy.

In fact, if you put ‘long-haired guinea pig’ into Google ‘image’ search, you will find Spiffy there on the first or second row.

Click that image and it will lead you straight to our article about Beatrix Potter’s Affable Animals that is searched for and found by people every day, two years on from when Tamara wrote the article.

We have been trying to find time to take more guinea pig photos, and we have decided that 2012 is the year to bring that wish to fruition. So if you are a guinea pig aficionado – watch this space!

The ‘Suprisingly Popular’ Category

In the ‘surprisingly popular’ category there is, for example, this image of Bath Abbey. It features as an ecard and in our article about the Abbey and has attracted a lot of attention.

The Forth Rail Bridge

A comparatively recent image that has been ‘found’ a large number of times is this ecard image of the Forth Rail Bridge that we also used in an article about the history of the bridge.

The Pear Grabs The Limelight

And this photograph of a pear has been ‘found’ a lot too. It is an ecard image and has also appeared in our article about chiaroscuro or Rembrandt Lighting In Photography.

Cherry Blossom

And finally, this image of cherry blossom has been very popular with our members, and we also used it in this article about Tea From The East To The West that has received a lot of interest.

From Our Articles

Apart from our popular ecard images, there were one or two that appeared in our articles but which we never made into ecards.

For example, we did not make an ecard from this image of an unfortunate fiance, but we did use the image to illustrate the article on the history of breach of promise.

The reason we didn’t make an ecard from the image is that we use original images that we have taken ourselves for our ecards, and an ‘image of a postcard’ doesn’t really fit into that idea.

An Unfortunate Fiance

Although we wrote the article about breach of promise in 2009, we still get ‘hits’ almost every day from people wanting to know more about the subject. And many people find the article via the image.

The Feather And The Inkwell

One of our favorite images is of a quill in an inkwell and we are predicting that it is going to be a hit in 2012.

There is a reason for that: Look out for this image appearing on some of our new products later in the year.

I can see why these cards are so popular. The guinea pigs and pear are especially arresting images. Well done!

Love Spiffey and Bath Abbey, so beautiful! Will keep an interested eye on the inkwell and feather, as well :)

Thanks, Sophie,

So far as the feather and inkwell is concerned, watch out for a range of greeting cards appearing in the coming months.

Lovely article, some of these I remember, but I think I missed the Guinea Pigs originally. The first one reminds me of my first pet, he looks just like Henry!

Thanks, Nick. I’ve been thinking about how to set up the photo shoot when we photograph more guinea pigs.

Flash is problematic, even with a big softbox – because of the noise of the flash going off and the difficulty of keeping the background down to black.

There is quite a bit of touching up on the black background to clone out stray hairs and paw marks!

The EXIF data on the NEF of the top photo says that I shot it with a 60mm macro lens on the D700. I don’t have either the lens or that body any more, so next time around I think I’ll use the 50mm on the D7000.

It’s good fun and I recommend photographing guinea pigs. I crack up when I photograph them because they are so adorable, as you know!

I love the guinea pig photos. We’ve had a long line of guineas over the years and currently have Hamish McHamish and Jeremy – both wonderful characters!

I came here today looking for a suitable ecard to send to a Chinese student for Chinese New Year tomorrow and your cherry blossom card is perfect :-)

Hi Angela – We’re huge guinea pig aficionados, so it’s great to hear from fellow GP (as I prefer to call our cavy friends) lovers like yourself :-) .

And my, what fabulous names your GPs have, particularly Hamish McHamish, what a intrepid-sounding fellow! Thanks for sharing that since we moved to Edinburgh lately and I can just hear a native pronouncing that with a lovely Scottish burr even as I write this. Not to pass over Jeremy, however, naturally he sounds like a winning sweetie too.

Our GPs have all been females, by the way, with names like Spiffy (a most dashing Abyssinian), Blossom (a shy agouti who we hoped would ‘blossom’ as she finally did), India (who had a white crest that reminded me of a turban), Audrey (a Dutch who had black and white markings reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn at her most sophisticated and gamine, but of course), etc. etc.

Seriously speaking, we think they are such fabulous, fascinating, and tremendously endearing creatures!

Glad you found our Quillcard cherry blossom card such a good match for your Chinese student, and here’s hoping that he or she is enjoying celebrating the Chinese New Year today :-)
